The earthquake was about three miles from Palos Verdes Estates, according to the USGS, and four miles from Rancho Palos Verdes and Torrance and Redondo Beach. Residents on the peninsula reported to the agency feeling light, or Level 4, shaking, with those to the north, in Los Angeles, reporting weak shaking, or Level 3.

In the last 10 days, there have been two earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.

An average of five earthquakes with magnitudes of 3.0 to 4.0 occur per year in the Greater Los Angeles area, according to a recent three-year data sample.
